THE HISTORY OF THE VILLAGE LANE BIBLE CHAPEL |
The Village Lane Bible Chapel started with several believers meeting together for Breaking of Bread in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Everett on Joshua's Path, Central Islip, New York. This home is still standing today and has not changed since the days it was the meeting place of the assembly. The assembly was known as the Central Islip Bible Chapel at that time, and was incorporated in 1960 as a non-profit organization. The assembly was incorporated with the mission of gathering to worship the Lord Jesus Christ according to New Testament Principles.

From this beginning, in the late 1950's, the assembly began to grow and moved to a store front on Caleb's Path, Central Islip, New York. As the Lord prospered the work, the assembly held special meetings in the American Legion Hall on route 347. That building is still standing, and is currently a Knights of Columbus Hall.

It soon became apparent that the Lord had established a New Testament assembly, and that a larger, more permanent place to meet was needed. Subsequently, the believers prayed for the Lord's direction as to where a permanent structure should be built.
The Lord enabled the assembly to purchase the land on the corner of Village Lane and Town line Road, in Hauppauge, New York, where the assembly meets today. There was no structure on the site, and the believers went about the task of getting the necessary permits and plans to put up a building.
Many of the saints that met at this time, possessed skills in building. Subsequently, with the Lord's people providing much of the labor, the present structure was completed in late 1966. Following the building's completion, the saints met to remember the Lord, in the Breaking of Bread, for the first time at VLBC in January 1967.
Since its beginning, the Work of the Lord at the Village Lane Bible Chapel, has touched the lives of countless numbers of men, women and children. Through its ministries of Sunday School, AWANA Club, nursing home ministry, involvement in rescue mission work, and Bible teaching ministry, the Village Lane Bible Chapel has sought to carry out the Lord's command to "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world."
